Dr. Thomas Walsh is Associate Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He has presented concerts and workshops in Brazil, Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica and across the United States. Recent CD releases include the David Baker Concerto with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (Paul Freeman Introduces David Baker, Volume XII), Basically Baker with the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, and Sky Scrapings: Saxophone Music of Don Freund. His jazz CD New Life was released on the RIAX label in 2002 complementing his 1998 classical release Shaking the Pumpkin. A Yamaha Performing Artist, he also teaches at the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops. Walsh holds degrees in Saxophone Performance and Jazz Studies from Indiana University, where his principal teachers were distinguished classical saxophonist Eugene Rousseau and renowned jazz educator David Baker.

Dr. Thomas Walsh is Associate Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington where he also serves as Woodwind Department Chair. A Yamaha Performing Artist, he is an active performer of jazz and classical music. He performs regularly with the Louisville Orchestra and on lead alto with the Steve Allee Big Band. He has appeared as a solo recitalist, in chamber groups, jazz small groups, big bands and Broadway shows. He has presented concerts and workshops across the United States, as well as in Brazil, Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Costa Rica. Walsh also performs regularly at conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance and performed at the World Saxophone Congress in Montreal and Minneapolis. From 2003 through 2006 he served as Treasurer for the North American Saxophone Alliance.
In 2004, Walsh played the premiere performance of David Baker's Concerto for Jazz Alto Saxophone and Orchestra at the NASA Biennial Conference at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His recording of the Baker Concerto with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra was released in Summer 2006 on Albany Recordings under the title Paul Freeman Introduces David Baker, Volume XII. Walsh is featured on two other recordings released in 2006: Basically Baker with the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra and Sky Scrapings: Saxophone Music of Don Freund. In 2002, Walsh released his first jazz CD, New Life, on the RIAX label. His first classical saxophone disc, Shaking the Pumpkin, was released in 1998 on RIAX. His most recent classical recording endeavor is titled Intersections.
Walsh has been on the faculty of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops since 1991. He has also taught at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Purdue University and Millikin University. Walsh holds Doctor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Saxophone Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Indiana University where he studied with distinguished classical saxophonist Eugene Rousseau and renowned jazz educator David Baker.
