Alvin has been a professional "bass-cat" for 16 years. He has toured worldwide with his band TAKE 6 and has won numerous performance and production awards including seven Grammy awards, five Dove awards, and other industry honors. A pioneer of the bass-vocal "walking" style in a cappella singing, Alvin listened to Marcus Miller, Jimmy Haslip, and Ron Carter mostly in an attempt to mimic what they were doing. "I sang the bass lick from Tom Browne's 'Jamaican Funk' for years, even before my voiced changed. My parents only wanted me to play classical piano but I sang what I wanted." He lives in West Hills, California, where he is considered to be an "A" list session singer in the Los Angeles area. His most recognizable contribution to the music world is the sound *Bangkk* which he is proud of when he hears other young basses mimicking him as they come up on the scene. "I enjoyed the friendship of the late Melvin Franklin of the Temptations, who told me, 'Never be scared to talk to the cats in this business. And while you're at it, share a word or two with the young brothers also.' I hope to share a little of my joy with whoever hears me."
